This is Fermatina, a demo containing the first chapter of Fermata, a game I'm working on. It's a platformer with very limited movement and no jumping – but, for that, you have an extremely versatile hookshot. Learn all the quirks of its usage – including those aspects that seem unintended, almost like "speedrunner strats" – and escape Fermatum's Tomb into the dying land of Agaratur beyond.

Fermatina has an in-built Game Speed slider that you can use if your reaction speeds aren't that fast or if you're struggling with a difficult section. If you beat the game and are looking for a challenge, try to find all rifts (special challenge collectibles), beat the game on 150% speed, without dying, without using the arrow keys to move on the ground (it's possible!), or try speedrunning it!

Fermata will contain (for the time being) 8 full levels, including Fermatum's Tomb, with new mechanics, plus some lore areas without gameplay. I'm thinking of adding a special epilogue, although I don't know if it will come with the initial release or in a post-release update.

Oh Machine and Alien One,
Your bond is now complete.
All that I could do is done,
I leave to you the feat.

I really like this game. The controls feel fun and the sound effects are satisfying, even on the menus. Although after getting to the room with the 2nd sign and the pointing-to-key sign, I have no idea how to progress. I'm sure I can figure it out.

I'm super glad you're enjoying it! You mean the big hall with the kneeling statues, or the room right after that (through the bottom right exit)? In that next room you have to ||change the direction of your chain while throwing||.

The room right after. Yeah, forget what past me said, I don't think I would've figured that out by myself. I feel like puzzle-wise it's a bit of a difficulty spike with nothing hinting towards it. (Unless I missed the hint(s).) Edit: fixed typo.

Huh, I didn't think that part would be *that* confusing, since there's no other possible explanation. Do you think a sign showing the crosshair moving up would help?

Also, what do you think about the sign in this room? Should I add a second sign at the first part:

Or maybe change them to mouse button signs?

I think it would help, since it stops people from thinking they're going the wrong way like I did at first. As for the the signs, I think the amount is fine either way, but I don't think they should be changed to mouse buttons.

I have no idea where the two missing secrets were, but had I seen them, I would have collected them, please consider adding a map to this game demo which unfolds the more the player explores and tells them where the uncollected secrets are.

With that said I never want to play this game again in my life, my brain is fried, it's 04:57 AM and I am tired.

This was all done at base speed, no slowing. Also I got the one that required 4 keys.

Wow. Well done, this is exactly what I hoped for. But one whole hour? Damn.

I haven't thought of adding a map, that's a good idea actually.

Is it possible you can add a map???

Definitely to the full game, idk if I'll want to add it to this demo. I mean I can add a very simple one which would just be a freecam, we'll see. For now you have this screenshot I posted lol.

freecam map would be great!

Yes! That would be awesome!

Hehe speedrun (had to update the game again because it was impossible to escape after collecting one of the rifts)

Damn you're crazy good

This is great! I really like these types of minimal, hyper focused games.
